Ki’s Redemption

Sexy Aliens/Sassy Dragons

Earth’s fate rests in the hands of shape-shifting dragons, studly aliens, and a determined woman who demands a say in her own fate. In this exciting finale of the An Alien Exchange trilogy, follow their adventures across the galaxy to a tale that features mounting action, stimulating passion, and heart-pounding emotions.

Sherrilyn Marie Cantor firmly believes success doesn’t come to those who sit around and wait for it to show up; it takes determination, discipline, and hard work. At thirty-four, she has it all – a successful business and more money than she can spend until a jealous partner sets her up and frames her for stealing trade secrets. She loses everything and faces a twenty-year federal prison sentence. When an unexpected offer to find “love among the stars” comes her way, she doesn’t hesitate to escape her unjust fate and leaves Earth forever.

A Zerin descended from a secretive line of dragon shapeshifters, M’alalu (Ki) Ki E’eur ignores the fact he’s living a half-life. Broken from childhood guilt for the murder of his parents and six year-old sister, he silently goes through the motions of everyday life. A former mercenary and friend of the crown prince of Zerin, Ki absorbs a debt his prince intended to take. He’s expendable; the prince isn’t. Now he’s in the crosshairs of a power-hungry despot determined to overthrow the current democratic galactic government.

Read an excerpt:

Being possessed sucked.

Yep, she, Sherrilyn Marie Cantor, was possessed—like “demon taking over your body” type of possessed. Instead of housing a spitting-pea-soup demon, Sherri endured an unwanted galactic gangster fighting for domination of her body and mind. From the moment the bubble housing the Dread Pirate Maynwaring popped over her face and his essence entered her, she’d been fighting for control. So far she’d kept a tight lid on things, but the whole situation was turning out to be a huge pain in the ass.

But, bright side, she had help from her Zerin shipmate, Ki. He’d taught her how to access the memories of her unwanted guest while at the same time keeping him locked away. Jeez, the spirit called himself Dread Pirate. What kind of name was that? Apparently, that wasn’t his original name, but something he’d adopted after hearing the story of The Princess Bride from a human slave. He’d become so enamored of the dread pirate character he changed his title.

What a snowflake.

What’sss a sssnowflake, human? He asked it in his normal, hissy tone.

How a disembodied entity had a tone was a mystery to her. He sounded like a snake with a speech impediment. She created a visual of sticking his stupid forked tongue between his teeth and clamping his mouth shut then taping it closed. And, if he called her human in that derogatory manner one more time….

Ki’s training kicked in. Instead of imagining the pain she’d rather give, she created a dark, dank pit to throw his happy ass in.

No…no, don’t ssssnd me there again!

Sherri imagined throwing his bright orb down a bottomless cavern before rolling an avalanche of sharp, heavy rocks to cover the hole. Dust billowed up and down before it settled in a thick layer to create a mountain to contain him. Then she pictured the mountain folding upon itself, repeatedly, until it was a speck of light flashing out of her thoughts.

Unfortunately, this exercise never held him for long. One minute he’d be gone (treasured silence), and the next, he’d be right back butting in and making snarky comments every chance he got. You’d think he’d be smart enough to keep his mouth shut so she didn’t know he was there.

Whoa…where’d that creepy idea come from? Sometimes the hair on the back of her neck broke out in chill bumps as if someone looked over her shoulder. What if…what if she wasn’t aware when he wormed his way out? Was he spying on private intimate things she was obsessed with…like say, a certain tall, well-built, sexy-as-sin Zerin named Ki…

Damn it! She shook her head to get rid of that image. She didn’t trust people outside of her body, much less the asshole inside. Only constant vigilance on her part would keep the alien in the hole she’d put it in. Shit, no wonder she was tired all the time.

Sherri sat with her feet over the side of the comfortable bed she’d slept in. She had to admit, she was happy enough with the accommodations aboard the organic AI ship called “Elemi.” Still, she could do without the snarky attitude the female contraption gave her all the time. The sleek 11-15 ship apparently came with a load of baggage, and not the kind Sherri liked to use on vacations.

#BookBlast Groundwork for Murder by Marilyn Baron and Sharon Goldman with Giveaway

Welcome to the book blast for Groundwork for Murder by Marilyn Baron and Sharon Goldman! Today I have an excerpt for you to check out before you download your own copy. The authors love it when you leave them comments and questions. Follow the tour for even more excerpts and more conversation. Plus there’s a great giveaway!

Groundwork for Murder

Landscape artist Alexandra Newborn dreams of a one-woman show at the Diamond Gallery. But the gallery owner dismisses her paintings as “old, tired, and dull. Lacking excitement.” Those words also describe Alex’s unhappy marriage.

Alex’s shocking reunion with her college art professor, Dominick “Nick” Anselmo—once a world-celebrated Italian artist, now a homeless lawn man—reignites their passion and fuels a creative spark for both, helping Nick recover from his wife’s death.

With Nick’s provocative sketches, art imitates life, but Alex doesn’t realize they reveal a dangerous liaison between her husband and the gallery owner. Without Nick’s knowledge, Alex arranges an art opening that includes his drawings.

When the torrid affair between Alex’s husband and his mistress is exposed, the seeds are sown for murder, mystery, and romance.

Read an excerpt:

The man grabbed her hand.

“Let go!” Alex shrieked.

“Alexandra, wait.”

Startled, Alex twisted painfully in the man’s solid grip as she gave him a closer look.

“Do I know you?”

Alex focused on his face, which was vaguely familiar, and tried hard to bury the image of the rest of the man’s body, which, although she’d only been exposed to a flash of flesh, was oddly disturbing. And when she did, she got another shock.

“P-Professore Anselmo?”

The man released her hand and came out from behind the shelter of the bushes, smiled shyly, and nodded. Although she hadn’t recognized his accent earlier, there was no mistaking his identity. But the last time she’d seen him, his smile had been almost smug and his mouth had been busy doing more than smiling. She’d buried the recollection of their last encounter so deep even she wasn’t clear about the details of just how far they’d gone and how far she had been prepared to go.

It was hard to reconcile the man of her dreams with this nasty-looking person standing in front of her. Professore Dominick Anselmo had been her college art teacher, her inspiration, her secret crush, until he’d been exposed for improper behavior with his graduate assistant and expelled from the university. The scandal had rocked the Art and Architecture Department and
blasted a rift in Alex’s personal world.

“Professore?” she repeated, her jittery voice rising a level. “What are you doing here?”

Janice’s Book Reviews – Review

“I enjoyed the interaction with the children her sister had. Also, there was a dog in the book that adds a lot to the story. Also loved the character Mr. Charlie that goes fish with Matt.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

He dropped onto the bed, intent on crawling back under the covers, when a bump at the door stopped him. Audible sniffing, a benign throaty growl, then the swish-swish-swish of rapid pawing on the door. Sharp barks followed in quick succession, building to an impossible-to-ignore crescendo.

“Ooh, good grief,” he groaned, scrubbing his hands over his face. “She left the dog.”

He squeezed his eyes shut tight, pulled a pillow over his head, and would have ignored the incessant noises had it been possible. Instead, he was drawn into an analysis of the range of emotions he heard in the animal’s barks and moans. They had taken on a decidedly forlorn appeal.

Christian Fiction and More – Review

Refuge at Pine Lake is a great summer vacation or staycation read. While including all of the charm found in small towns in the south, the author tackles some big themes like grief and planning for the future while still listening to God’s direction.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Nervous energy buzzed in his bones. He pulled out his laptop and plugged it in. But how could he relax with a woman flitting around downstairs?

Matt threw open the drapes to an astounding rush of sky, trees, and water. The blue-green water bordered by tall pines sparkled in the afternoon sun, the environment pristine and bright. The sky was the same blue as the woman’s eyes. And what was that look on her face when he’d told her not to bother with supper? He probably should have thought to curtail the annoyance in his voice.

“Argh,” he grumbled. “I’m not up for this.”

Two Points of Interest – Review

“As the novel progressed, I did warm up a bit more to the characters and was hoping that they get their own happy ending.”

A Modern Day Fairy Tale – Review

“If you love a good romance, this one is fantastic. It’s a fairly quick read and the perfect one to throw into your purse for your own lakeside relaxation. I loved it, and would certainly recommend it to all.”

Meagan Davenport – Excerpt

Robin sat in her studio drawing cattails in a pond when Callie started barking excitedly. Her subsequent dance by the door let Robin know they had company. Emmy had arrived. She glanced at the time. Just after noon. She began tidying the drafting table, gathering her pencils and returning them to the proper glass canisters, and putting her drawings out of the reach of inquisitive little fingers. After brushing her hands on her apron, she pulled it off, hung it on a hook, and headed downstairs.

The characteristic glee of children playing brought a smile to her face.

Peaceful Pastime – Review

“Overall, I loved this wonderfully crafted story with likeable characters and thought it flowed at a nice pace. I genuinely like the authors writing and will read more of her work and for those reasons, I recommend this book.”

Savings in Seconds – Review

“I loved the setting of this story! Refuge at Pine Lake characters visited a local pizzeria, there’s a fish fry, and — of course — scenes around the lake. It’s like summer on paper!”

Paulette’s Papers – Excerpt

Three picnic tables stood under the trees at the back edge of the clearing. Robin sat on a bench and watched Callie play. As her mood adjusted to the rhythm of the place, thoughts of Caleb filled her imagination. In only a few more days, she would see him again. His handsome face came to mind. He’d promised to call her as soon as he returned from the fishing tournament.

Butterflies filled her stomach, and sweet anticipation rose within her. Summer vacation had begun.

Oh, wow, she thought with a smile. My future starts now.

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“This heartwarming tale is a story of hope, grace healing, faith, overcoming and inspiration. . . . I highly recommend Refuge at Pine Lake for all readers. I believe so many would find it to relatable. I would love to give it one hundred stars if I could.”

The Barefoot Reader – Excerpt

The cool breeze carried a hint of pine and the sweet wistful scent of honeysuckle. As he neared the water, ripples lapped against the shore. The boat tied there swayed and bumped ever so slightly against the dock. He stopped and watched the almost imperceptible movement. Then he followed the path Robin had taken.

As if he had checked his past at some invisible door and walked into a mystical place, he looked at the lake and the sky and became an element in the environment. His thoughts, if he had any, were wordless impressions. When he came to a clearing around the peninsula, he sat on a weathered picnic table facing the water and propped his feet on the wooden bench. All around him was the vast expanse of sky and water.

Splashesofjoy – Review

“I really enjoyed this story. The beautiful Southern setting makes a peaceful place to call home. . . . Author Rose Chandler Johnson created wonderful realistic characters that drew me into the story and made me feel like part of the family. . . . I am looking for more books by Rose Chandler Johnson in the future. In the meantime, check out My Fathers House and God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea, also by this same author. I give this book a 5 star rating.”

Moments – Review

“I really enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to what comes next in this series. Each of the characters became so alive and easy to relate to as well as working their ways into my heart. Once I started reading this book, I did not want to have to stop reading. I highly recommend this book!”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

At four thirty, Caleb rapped on the apartment door, and as soon as he stepped inside, his smile vanquished all her fears. He had that easy grace that came from being an athlete, and a glow from good health and lots of sunshine. His eyes twinkled as he held a bouquet of pink Gerber daisies tied with a wide gingham ribbon.

“Oh, Caleb, they’re beautiful!” Robin reached for the flowers and he reached for her. “How did I get so lucky?” she murmured as he covered her mouth with his.

“That’s my line,” he whispered against her cheek.
