What was the inspiration behind this book?

This book was actually the result of writer’s block. I’d gone a few months laboring away on a few short stories because I had no idea what I was going to write next. I actually had no idea how I was going to end this book—just started writing and let the words write the story.

Which character was your favorite to write?

Emily was pretty awesome. She lived a laid-back life and never let anything bother her. But Herb was definitely my favorite. He’s just some angry old man with zero filter whatsoever. It was pretty fun writing without a filter.

What was one of your favorite scenes?

Well, I’m a big fan of the ending. But that’s my sweet spot. When I read, a book that shocks me at the end is one that stays with me for a long time. So I try to write the same way.

Will we see your characters again?

It’s doubtful. I know the new trend in reading and writing is the idea of following one character through a series of books, but I have too many characters in my head, screaming to get out. I remember reading an article about Jim Carrey and how he never liked the idea of doing sequels because he wanted something new. I guess I feel the same way. I like starting with a blank canvas and building a story as well as characters.

Why should we read your book?

My hope is that you find it entertaining. It’s rather short, at only about 260 pages. So what could it hurt? Give it a shot.

What is your writing routine?

One day I’ll be able to say I’m a full-time writer. My dream day is to write for a few hours in the morning, then take a fewhour break to exercise and do some yard work, and then come back to write again at night. But unfortunately the bills don’t pay themselves…and neither does my writing. So I write around work and being a dad and husband–I write wherever I can, whenever I can.

When not writing, what can we find you doing?

Most of the time I’m working on my honey-do list. But I will occasionally sit down and binge on some Family Guy or browse Netflix for the next great stand-up comedian.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would simply like to thank you for having me. For allowing me the chance to display this book and to share a little bit about myself. And thank you to everyone taking the time to read this.

Out of Hiding

Charles Dampor was supposed to be a blessing, but instead turned out to be a curse. A family torn by deception and greed now saw Emily for what she was, and a co-worker with a vicious past of his own now has his own personal vendetta against her. If Emily doesn’t open her eyes and see the doors she’s unlocked, she’ll find herself at the bottom of Lake Bermin…with Charles’s ex-wife.

Read an excerpt:

My eye is now on the bottom half, literally. The bottle is held up to my face, eye level. I can see the amount of liquid sitting in there, yet to be touched. Soon to be ingested, digested, then disposed of. That remaining fluid seems to have the possibility for a story in there. Each ounce contains a few words. That story could be the malicious murder of Emily Geiser. It could be. But it could also be the twist in the story I have yet to write. A twist I do not want. A twist leading to a happy ending. Emily and Charles live happily ever after, skipping off into the sunset. Maybe she gets a promotion, becomes his secondhand man. They cut out the money-hungry daughter Carla for good and enjoy their own life. And me? I finally get punished for the murders of Veronica, my wife and her whore friend Sam, and their boy toy. The possibility of me turning myself in could even be lying within the contents of this bottle, but that’s doubtful. The words that write that ending are in a second bottle, sitting somewhere on a liquor store shelf nearby. But I won’t go there. I haven’t had the urge for a Bottle Number Two in quite some time.

    1. Thank you for the inquiry, Bernie.
There are a lot of books I’d like to see sequels to. But the one that first jumps to my mind is a book I read recently, called The Tourist by Robert Dickinson. The ending left a lot to the imagination, so I’d like to see where Dickinson planned to go next with it.

  3. Congrats on the tour and I appreciate the excerpt and the great giveaway as well. Love the tours, I get to find books and share with my sisters the ones I know they would enjoy reading and they both love to read. Thank you!
